The Lez, a river to share
From the Antigone district, the Lez flows due south towards the sea. Its landscaped banks welcome runners, cyclists and lovers at golden hour. Pink flamingos pass by in spring, and the pine scent takes over as soon as you leave the city. An improvised picnic on a bench, feet in the grass, is enough to turn an ordinary evening into a softer moment.
Beaches and seaside resorts
In Palavas-les-Flots, cabins and grilled-fish terraces tell of Sunday life for Montpellier locals. Further east, La Grande-Motte amazes with its white pyramids, designed by Jean Balladur and listed as 20th-century heritage. The protected Petit-Travers beach stretches golden sand as far as the eye can see. So many spots to plan a salty date at sunset.
Maguelone and the Étang de l’Or
In Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone, a narrow island links vineyards to the sea. At its tip, the Romanesque Maguelone Cathedral, rich in history, can be visited between the vines. The nearby Étang de l’Or hosts a bird fauna worth watching in silence. On Lyad, Hérault members share their favourite coves and walks; it is up to you to find someone to listen to the wind with.
